Having a cough can be very distracting, not to mention very painful and annoying. While there are many over-the-counter options, sometimes these do not work, and often have nasty side effects like drowsiness. There are several different all-natural treatments that a cough sufferer can make right at home without the side effects.
Sleeping thyme (thyme tea). A traditional German remedy for coughs is known as thyme. This cure is said to help upper respiratory infections, bronchitis, whooping cough, and coughs. This is due to the fact that the leaves of the plant contain cough suppressant compounds. The compound known as Thyme flavonoids helps to relax ileal and tracheal muscles. These are responsible for coughing. In addition to helping the cough, this tea will also help to improve headaches as well as inflammation. To make the tea, boil one cup of water and add 2 teaspoons of leaves that have been crushed. Allow the tea to seep for 10 minutes, strain and drink.
