Ear pain can happen due to a number of reasons. The most common reason is due to ear infections, known as otitis externa and otitis media. Many people tend to rush to the doctor for prescription medications for ear pain, which can cost a lot if insurance is not available. Instead, take advantage of the following five home remedies when experiencing ear pain.
Heat. Applying heat to the affected area will help to relieve the pressure and pain caused by an ear infection. A hot pack or heating pad can be used against the ear. Many different heating pads are available in stores and for purchase online. A hot pack can be applied to the painful ear for 20 minutes or more. The pad should not rest on the throat or neck. When using a heating pad, make sure that it does not get too hot. Most pads already come with an outer cover that protects the skin, but if this isn’t enough, using a thin towel under the pad is a good idea. Children should never use a heating pad without the supervision of an adult, and no one should fall asleep using a pad.
