The Symptoms, Causes, Risks and Treatment of Heart Palpitations

Heart palpitations are a common cardiac event where the heart beats quickly. People who experience this condition may feel that the rapid heartbeat comes for no reason. However, there are several possible causes. Palpitations may be a sign that the body is under some sort of stress, whether that is mental stress, strong emotion or physical exertion. They are also associated with medications that contain stimulants as well as a few medical conditions.

Information. Heart palpitations are not unusual and may be related to the body’s natural response to stress. Palpitations are generally harmless, similar to having the hiccups. Although it may feel worrisome, most of the time this condition goes away on its own as the heart returns to a regular rhythm. It is important to note that heart palpitations can by a symptom of other medical conditions such as heart arrhythmia and hyperthyroidism. If a patient experiences regular bouts of heart palpitations, or the palpitations go on for an extended period of time, he or she should seek the advice of a physician.
