The Symptoms, Causes and Treatment of Dyslexia

Dyslexia is the most common learning disorder affecting children. It typically causes problems with reading, writing and spelling skills. It impacts children from all races, ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds. Both girls and boys can get dyslexia. It can be a scary and confusing experience for a parent to find out that a daughter or son has dyslexia. The good news is that help is available, and children with dyslexia can succeed in learning activities.

Information. The exact cause of dyslexia isn’t known. Some studies have shown differences in the way the brain develops and works in children with dyslexia. For example, the way sound and language are processed in the brain has been found to be different in children with dyslexia compared with children who don’t have it. Children with dyslexia typically have normal intelligence. The problem lies in their ability to recognize and use speech sounds to effectively learn language skills. Despite these challenges, children with dyslexia can learn when given the right support.
